Lucifer has been released from his prison in Hell, and has in turn unleashed the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse — War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death — to herald the end of times. Dean and Sam have set themselves the seemingly impossible task of stopping the Apocalypse, while also trying to avoid their destinies: to be the human vessels for Archangel Michael and Lucifer when they fight to determine the fate of Earth and humanity. On the journey, the Winchesters find time to face wraiths, witches, pagan gods, the Whore of Babylon, and a cute anti-Christ.
