Christina Henry’s Alice, a dark fantasy take on Lewis Carroll’s children’s classic, is an upcoming project for Titan Books that Desk Editor Cat Camacho can’t wait for.
In a warren of crumbling buildings called the Old City, a hospital echoes with the screams of the poor souls inside. Inside, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn’t remember why she s in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood...Then, one night, a fire at the hospital gives the woman a chance to escape, leaving her free to uncover the truth about what happened to her all those years ago.
Cat says: This first came across my desk in a pile of submissions, and it had me hooked from the very first page. Both I and Senior Editor Cath Trechman raced through the manuscript, and just knew this nightmarishly compelling novel had to see the light of day in the UK. Christina Henry is most definitely an author to watch: Alice came second in the Goodreads Choice Awards Best of Year Horror category, beating many more well-known authors, and was an Amazon Best Book of the Year for Science Fiction and Fantasy. It should also be out in time for Tim Burton’s long-awaited film sequel to Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass.
