Re-issuing books for a new reader and a new time offers up a really exciting opportunity for cover design. Here at Titan, we have brought back classic and popular series such as Matt Helm and Fu-Manchu, and re-launched backlists of much-loved genre writers such as Kim Newman, Helen MacInnes and Philip José Farmer. Each re-issue cover is a chance to give the book a fresh new look, while staying true to the vision of the text in its own time and place.
The Titan library is bursting with hidden gems for any lover of vintage book design – from colourful and psychedelic fantasy mass-market paperbacks to hilariously poorly photoshopped crime covers from the 80s. It’s a treasure trove for the book hoarder and the typography connoisseur alike (happily, there are a fair few of these working at Titan)!
We thought we’d share with you some of the old covers that have been unearthed from our shelves, and present them alongside their new Titan designs.
